Dear fellow tax hikers, by this time next week our dear close friends Simon Leis, Jean Schmidt and Virgil Lovitt will be out of office. While many others will celebrate the New Year when the ball drops tomorrow night, we tax hikers will be huddled around together crying our eyes out at the loss of these great public servants.
The first to leave office is our beloved 2008 Tax Hiker of the Year Virgil Lovitt, who leaves office tomorrow. Virg is perhaps the finest local elected official we have and his departure is a huge loss for all of us.
This man has joyously raised Property Taxes, Earnings Taxes, Sales Taxes, Hotel/Motel Taxes, and has done so much more. He endorsed Todd Portune's re-election while opposing our enemy Pat DeWine, endorsed Bob Taft's 3rd Frontier program so Ohio can fund its own Solyndras, and was one of Jean Schmidt's closest Hamilton County friends.
His contributions to the tax-and-spend movement have been immeasurable. In honor of Virg, we dedicate this post to all the taxes he has raised and all the good things he has done for us. This post will not be a funeral, but instead a tribute to a man who has earned it.
To honor Virg, we ask all you tax hikers to tell us your favorite Virgil Lovitt memories.

I am going to miss all of those nice dinners and cocktail parties he held at the Sharonville Convention Center, especially the smaller, high-dollar ones held on the lower level where we didn't have so many smelly, fat, disgusting, inbred west siders attending.
I will fondly remember Virgil for all the tax hikes he supported, which gave a great deal of political cover to our Democrat candidates. I will be ever-grateful for his support of Todd Portune.
I will never forget the unconditional support my man "V-Love" gave to Jean Schmidt and Leslie Ghiz when I was in my former career as a political operative. I am very "Madeira Proud" to call him my friend.
My totally non-political wife and my completely non-political self appreciate all that he did for all those non-political tax hikes he supported too.
During my glory days as Ohio Attorney General, Virg and I stood together to support a 15 year Sales Tax increase for all of Hamilton County. That was one of my finest moments as an elected official before my legal troubles overtook me. Hamilton County deserves higher taxes, and that's something Virg understood as well as anyone.
I will miss Virg's uncanny ability to sound like a fiscal conservative while pushing for tax hike after tax hike after tax hike. His ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth might even be better than mine.
You know, Virgil was a Roman poet, but this Greek will miss Virgil Lovitt
Dear Friend-
I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and are enjoying this holiday season. Thank you for your support of the Hamilton County Republican Party.
As the pundits and politicians battle in Washington, D.C., your local Party must turn its attention to those things we can impact in our own community. In the coming days and weeks, we will begin to unveil our plan to impact Cincinnati, motivate at the grassroots level, keep our majority in the County Commission, and prepare to re-elect our statewide GOP team led by Governor Kasich. We have very important work to do and that work must not be deterred by the sideshow occurring in our nation's capital as the Democrats predictably refuse to deal with the long term fiscal calamity our nation faces.
The calendar gives us all one more day to rest and enjoy our families before we get back to the important work of local politics. I hope you have a wonderful New Year celebration and that you will return as energized and committed as I am to continue the fight for our shared principles.
Happy New Year!
Alex M. Triantafilou
Chairman
I want to thank Virgil for creating an excellent park system in Sharonville. Hopefully, he has a son he can bequeath this seat too, because that's how we do it here in the good old U.S of A.
We'll miss all the jokes we made over the years with Virgil about the Landfill Losers in Rumpketown.
We will miss the way Virgil always made our jobs easier, giving cover for our people to support higher taxes and also the way he talked about those right-wing extremists in COAST all the time always made our hearts smile.
Like me, Virgil wasn't shy about talking one way and voting another. Just like me last night when I spoke out both sides of my mouth.
I always appreciated how Virg made me look like a real conservative in comparison, allowing me to spend lots of money supporting high-tax politicians and then talking like a conservative.
I can't use my real name because I have a very important position at the highest levels of the Government of this Great State of Ohio, but I could thank Virgil for many a memory during my long and unquestionably loyal service to the Republican Party.
One special memory stands out though is the rally at the Sharonville Convention Center in 2010 that I put on for Jon Husted with Virgil's help and support. We had hundreds of people there to support Jon Husted, but then those Kasich Kronies decided the rally was going to be all about him and they took it over. All of my hard work, and they got the credit for it. That happened a lot in 2010. I am so pleased to see some of the Kasich people get what was coming to them in 2011 and 2012 though. Ingrates. All of my hard work goes to the credit of other people again and again. I've done so much work for so little recognition that it truly makes me sad. I fear for the future of this nation of ours and the State of Ohio. I really do.
With all the speed traps and night patrols on 275 in Sharonville all these years, it's amazing they never caught any politicians drinking and driving, isn't it?
I envy Virgil's ability to continue to remain in the good graces of the Republican Party while raising taxes all the time. Though I was first elected with Republican support, they turned their back on me. Then, I tried to get into the State Senate as a Democrat, and that didn't work. Then I was elected as an independent backed by Democrats like Joe Wolterman. Then I joined the Teap Party. Rejected by all parties, I never even cast a vote during 16 years in elected office, yet this guy keeps his job while raising all kinds of taxes.
Well done, laddy. Well done indeed.
