Discussion: Cincinnati Mayoral Primary

Dear fellow tax hikers, we hope everyone has had a chance to calm down after the stunning defeat of our Roxanne Qualls in Tuesday's Mayoral Primary.  If we have any hope of overcoming this setback to win in November we must quickly learn from our failures and rebuild.

We are asking for reader participation.  Tell us, why do you think Roxanne Qualls lost this primary?  Is it because people didn't know about all the taxes she raised.  Is it because more people weren't aware of her pivotal role in passing the Bob Bedinghaus Stadium Tax?  Is it because people for some reason didn't think it was appropriate for her to run a campaign ad showing a dog pissing on a Cranley sign?  Is it because her legions of supporters simply forgot to vote that day?

After you explain Roxanne's loss, we'd also like your advice explaining how we can turn this campaign around.  We need Roxanne Qualls to win in November.  If she loses, the streetcar might be stopped, the parking plan might be stopped, and we might not get any new tax increases for a while.  We must turn this around.

Cranley won because people believed all the lies from the Cranley campaign, the Enquirer, WLW, suburban dwellers, and city residents who lived outside downtown and OTR. Roxanne and her supporters were the only people who told the truth.

She will win in November because this time her loyalists will remember to vote and independent voters will come to realize how great the streetcar, parking plan, and stadiums are for the community.

Roxanne now has seven weeks to expose Cranley for the double-talking hypocrite he truly is. Not only did he vote for the streetcar that he now claims to oppose, he supported budgets that cut cops and firefighters. The really fun part will be exposing his hypocrisy on taxes, claiming a tax rollback on owner-occupied property that he rents in Price Hill.

I don't understand how Cranley won. Everyone I know supported Roxanne.

We need to work harder at defining Roxanne as "the real Democrat" in the race, and continue our work reprimanding all moderate Democrats, independents, and Republicans who support Cranley.

Now that I eat Alex Triantafilou's lunch on a regular basis, I can remind him that we have two candidates in the race for the single most important position in the county. He and his anti-black, anti-woman Republicans have zero. Also, I will keep my council majority after this election, regardless. We're also making unprecedented plays for suburban seats too. This kind of playing field makes it even easier for us to attract good candidates and to export our city council candidates to countywide office. It was hard chairing the Democratic Party in Hamilton County for so many years... until Alex came along, that is.

TWO Democrats in this race, and here I am the former Democratic campaign operative and illegal alien rights advocate, having to sit this one out. I've got the unenviable job of pretending I care that we just might have a great election and elect four Republicans among nine seats on council. No chance for a majority, plus we all know Malone and Wegman don't have a snowball's chance. Plus Winburn doesn't care a bit about what we tell him to do here at headquarters. So, yeah, I pretty much get to spend my days trying to act like it's all about Amy Murray. So, until the money runs out, we're basically the Amy Murray Campaign Office.

Amy Freaking Murray. That's what all this has come down to. Big freaking whoop.

Just think, whoever the next mayor is, he or she will find Leslie Ghiz attractive. That's really scary.

My good friend Tim Burke really let me have it when I tried to be critical of a judge on the juvenile bench who I thought might not be the best or the brightest judge we have. Boy, did my good friend Tim Burke take me to the woodshed over that one. So did my good friends at the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Good thing there isn't a Republican running for mayor. I might slip up and say something critical of one of the Democrats running and my good friend Tim Burke would publicly humiliate me with another open letter addressed to me that he actually sends to the newspapers and TV and radio stations first.

And... it's a good thing we can't field a majority on city council or my good friend Tim Burke might call me a bigot if I would bother to remind voters about the wasteful spending people like Wendell Young and Laure Quinlavan have supported. And if I dare said anything about Chris Seelbach, my good friend Tim Burke would go to the newspapers, radio stations and television stations and call me a homophobe too.

And... the Reds had a good game tonight didn't they? That's a topic I can talk about forever without my good friend Tim Burke calling me out.

And... the Bengals are holding their own against the Steelers. That's good. My good friend Tim Burke lets me praise the Bengals without implying I am a racist.

I need to call my good friend Tim Burke and see if I can get his permission to talk about the Cincinnati Bearcats' great season so far. That would be some real awesome sauce if I could discuss the Bearcats with my good friend Tim Burke's permission.

I love the way my good friend Tim Burke totally rewrote the ballot language that those troublesome Tea Partiers are putting on the ballot to cut the pensions for those dedicated and hard-working City of Cincinnati employees. That was some good wordsmithing my a great attorney. It's too bad I have to lead those angry, bitter, hateful people in the Republican Party because that crew will never win an election. My good friend Tim Burke will see to that.

We encourage the Qualls campaign to continue using Craig Hochscheid as their online spokesperson. He has been doing an excellent job of building support - for us.

Bankers for Cranley said...

We're buying John Cranley off the same way we bought off the GOP for decades on end. They got the blame for the financial crisis and we're still wealthy. When Cranley becomes mayor, we'll own him and our profits will come before the people of Cincinnati. He will bankrupt Cincinnati in much the same way the Republican Party has bankrupted America.

I better send Qualls some more money. Nobody has done more for me than Roxy (and my pet Bob Bedinghaus)
