Rick Bryan's electability issue

Dear fellow tax hikers, one thing we have learned from our many losing races is the need to work on our candidates' weaknesses early in the campaign.  And we have supported LOTS of losing candidates - Sean Donovan, Roxanne Qualls, Leslie Ghiz, Michelle Schneider, Virgil Lovitt, and Sandra Queen Noble, to name a few.

We have already identified a major weakness of Blue Ash Councilman Rick Bryan, one he must address in order to win this year's campaign for State Representative.  Tax Hikin' Rick Bryan has badly underperformed the Republican vote in his prior Council runs.  Rick represents the heavily Republican Ward 3 in Blue Ash, but was barely re-elected in his last two contested races.

Our crack research team has compiled the vote results of recent elections in Rick Bryan's Ward:

John Kasich, 2010: +20
Evil conservative Chris Monzel, 2010: +26
Mitt Romney, 2012: +12

Rick Bryan, 2009, against a 1st-time Democratic challenger: +5
Rick Bryan, 2011: +4

Just because Tax Hikin' Rick Bryan performs much worse than other Republicans doesn't mean we should abandon him.  Rick is too good of a tax hiker to give up on, even winning our prestigious 2011 Tax Hiker of the Year award

It is up to us to turn Rick from a subpar candidate into a winning one.  We need to remind voters about all the taxes he's raised.  We must remind them about the Cincinnati Streetcar he helped fund.  Voters must know about Rick's strong support for Bob Bedinghaus.  We have to fight for our tax hikers.  It's our job to make the voters realize how much they like Rick Bryan and the big government he'll bring us.

I guess this means we will have to spend even more money to make sure our man Rick gets in and we keep those bothersome Tea Partiers out. Down with Dever!

Good! Rick Bryan has won a number of close, hard-fought elections. That's just the type of experience we need. All Dever has done politically is lead that "Team 2012" effort for the county party that totally crashed and burned. Alex and Maggie and Ashwin and Debbie are so great at what they do that our party's failure to deliver Hamilton County for Mitt Romney or Josh Mandel, heck even for Wayne Lippert or Sean Donovan, can only be laid at the feet of the extreme conservative Tea Partier Jonathan Dever. Maybe if he actually lived in the 28th district, he could have done a better job as a leader of a diverse coalition.

Old white guy? Check.

Raises taxes? Check.

Underperforms the Republican vote? Check.

That's the perfect GOP candidate! When can I offer my endorsement?

Guys like Rick Bryan don't have any problems when political pros like us get behind them. It's those evil tea partiers like Richard Murdock, Todd Akin, Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell who have the elect-ability problems. Remember, if Bryan wins, all the Republicans will support him, plus the moderate independents and conservatives will have no choice but to either support him or vote for a Democrat. If that Tea Party whacko Dever wins then expect a lot of reasonable moderate Republicans to support the Democrat. It's just how it works. Get in line, you crazy conservatives, and follow the true leaders. (That would be us.)

Ward 3 GOP said...

The numbers speak for themselves. I personally know a lot of Republicans in this Ward that no longer support Rick. Whether it's his higher taxes, poor listening skills, building more low-income apartments, supporting the streetcar, Rick has lost a lot of
GOP support.

I also badly underperformed the Republican vote, something else my good friend Rick and I have in common. If you liked me, you'll love Rick.

Rick drives an Audi 5000, just like me.

I guess that means more fund-raisers for Rick Bryan and so that means more shopping for me.

Sumner for Commish said...

Yes, but Rick has the super important Jim Sumner endorsement, and we all know how great Jim Sumner is at winning elections outside of Blue Ash.

Streetcar Hipsters said...

We support Rick Bryan because of his awesome mustache. Oh yeah, and his support of the wasteful streetcar was awesome too. Who's worried about winning elections? If this past year has taught us anything its that you can lose an election and still get what you want.

With the Dave Yost endorsement in his back pocket, does that mean Dave's southwest Ohio sidekick Christa Criddle will be supporting Rick too? So much for having a conservative in the state central committee.

Rick Bryan is the GOP's way of expanding beyond our old white male base. LOL.

Why nominate a good candidate when we can select a tax-hiking big government old white male with a poor history of getting votes?

Even some tea-partiers like Maggi Cook are supporting Rick Bryan. You know you're a real kook when ever the Tea-bangers can't support you. Down With Dever!

Tim Burke said...

We look forward to delivering Kamrass signs out to the Republicans in the 28th if that Tea Party Krazy KOAST Kook Dever is the winner of your primary.

28th District Voter said...

My kid's goldfish has lived in the 28th district longer than Jonathan Dever has.

John McCain said...

Even I performed better in Rick Bryan's Ward than Rick Bryan did.

But I still endorse Rick because like me he's an old white dude and our party needs to nominate more of our kind.

We love the outpouring of support for Rick Bryan on this blog. It's awesome. Rick has raised more money from more people than his opponent. Rick has far more endorsements than his opponent. His opponent should just drop out now, save everyone's time and money, and get our party united behind Rick Bryan.

We're backing Rick. That will help him just like it helped Sean Donovan, just like it helped Wayne Lippert, just like it helped Rebecca Groppe, just like it helped Vince Wallace, just like it helped so many others. No wonder everyone thinks we're invincible.

Jonathan Tyler Dever has the perfect pedigree to be one of us. Too bad he had to go all whacky conservative and stuff, otherwise he would have had a great future as a leader in the Republican Party.

Same Game - Different Name said...

Glad to see the yokels backing Bryan and crowing on this blog are following the Virg Lovitt victory playbook.
- Raise a bunch of money from RINO's
- Line up support from loser establishment Republicans
- Hope people don't pay attention to your awful voting record

The only thing missing is the final result: Lose election and wrongfully blame conservatives

I can't use my real name because I am retired from a very important position at the highest levels of state government. Folks, Rick Bryan has put his time in. And you know, that's all that really matters to me, unless I am being passed over for something.

Chef Boyardini said...

Did you guys know that Jonathan Dever KNOWS some people who have raised taxes? That provides a BIG counterweight to all the taxes that Rick Bryan has actually raised.

Elections don't have consequences in the 28th House District. If Rick Bryan wins the nomination, it won't matter who wins the general. If that Tea Party whackjob wins the Republican primary (again), the Democratic candidate will win (again). Either way, we the people of the 28th House District will do everything we can to make sure our taxes go up. It's for the children.
