GOP refuses to endorse 3 conservative lawmakers

Dear fellow tax hikers, we are very happy to report that our Ohio Republican Party (ORP) refused to endorse three evil conservative Republican State Representatives for re-election.  Normally the ORP automatically endorses all its incumbents, but something had to be done to send a message to conservatives that they aren't welcome anymore.

The three unendorsed lawmakers are Southwest Ohio Reps Ron Maag and John Becker, along with Ron Hood who conducts his treachery elsewhere in the state.  They are more devoted to their constituents and conservative principles than they are to the political machine and Statehouse lobbyists.  And for that, they must be punished.

The Ohio House GOP Caucus requested to the ORP that these three not be endorsed.  They did recommend that State Rep. Peter Beck, who is under indictment on 69 felony charges, receive the endorsement.  That makes sense to us.

If Beck was indicted for 70 or 71 felonies we might have had a problem, but as long as he's a 69er we'll be with him.

However our ORP Chairman Matt Borges, himself a convicted criminal with numerous tax liens, decided that Beck should not be endorsed.  You know, maybe we were wrong to support Beck.  Thank goodness we have Chairman Borges to serve as our moral authority.  Either way, we are very proud of the Republican Party for putting conservatives in their place.

If I commit criminal behavior in a high-ranking State office, and then accumulate a stack of unpaid tax liens, that's ok I can be Ohio Republican Party Chairman.

If I defraud people out of millions and get indicted on 69 felony charges, that's ok too I can still get party support for State Representative.

But if I'm a law-abiding citizen and compile a conservative record, I know I'm not welcome in the Ohio Republican Party. On to victory!

If they aren't going to endorse those whacky conservatives, does that mean I will be a shoo-in for the Ohio Republican Party's endorsement????

Or will I have to go out and commit a few crimes first???

I'll do anything to get that endorsement.

Where can I send a check to the Democratic opponents of these 3 arch-conservatives?

I'm kind of with my new good friend Ms. Faulkner Cooney, though I'd rather take out those conservatives in the GOP primary. I would be happy to endorse any liberal Republican who is willing to challenge the three noted conservatives. Do we have any liberal GOPers like Rick Bryan willing to step up?

These uncouth right-wingers are way, way, way far to the east. They aren't east siders. They are on the far right at the edge of the earth. Please be clear about that. Time for a manicure.

That'll show these guys. We need to be the party of inclusion. We need to match the Democrats' stances on all the issues, especially on gay rights, abortion, amnesty and gun control. Then we will get people who usually vote for Democrats to vote for our candidates as well as all those stupid conservatives who will vote for our candidates because they have no other choice.

Purging members because they are too conservative??? Pinch me, I am dreaming! This is just like being in New York City Democratic Party politics all over again.

We all know that Matt Borges didn't actually commit any crimes. We believe his tax liens were partly a result of the legal expenses he incurred. You Cincy people know exactly who he took the fall for. Knock it off.

I can't wait to be endorsed by this illustrious group that understands there is no room for conservatism in today's Republican Party.

No Columbus Confidential, please do tell for whom he took the fall. We didn't think anyone up there remembered.

I knew I could count on Matt Borges to keep those crazy conservatives in line. Did anyone ever really believe me when I said we should stick with people who agree with us most of the time rather than elect a Democrat who never agrees with us? Those gullible conservatives always bought that line. They never realized most Democrats agree with my kind of Republicans 80% of the time, so what difference did it ever make to us???

We love covering stories like this. It's much more enjoyable than having to report about Democrats like Clayton Luckie and Carlton Weddington who went to jail, or Congressmen like Alan Grayson who has been charged with domestic violence. Any day we don't have to report about the cosmic ineptitude of the Edmund Fitzgerald campaign is a good day indeed. Come on Republicans, please say something mean or stupid so we can keep the focus on you and away from our friends in the Democratic Party.

I hope this blog approves of everything I've done to keep conservatives out of the Republican Party. First, I provided the illusion of conservative opposition to Mike DeWine in the AG primary. My candidacy made sure no actual conservatives filed against him. Then at the last minute, I ran for Auditor and my buddies in Columbus helped me crush the conservative there. Then I went over three years using my job of being a non-political straight-shooting auditor as an excuse. I hired a bunch of people I knew weren't conservative for my staff and if one slipped through every now and then I had to get rid of him or her. Now you've seen me flex my political muscle backing one of your favorite candidates and champion tax-hikers in a Republican primary. Have you EVER seen me support a conservative? No, but you've sure seen my slick moves to work against them. And I'm not finished yet. Guitar, baby!

Fact: Matt Borges plead Guilty to improper use of public office, a plea which was accepted by the Judge.

Fact: Matt's tax liens date back to 1999, 5 years before he plead Guilty to the above charge.

Just because you're special in Columbus doesn't mean you get to rewrite history in Cincinnati.

Depending on how one defines it, whether by votes or by statements, or ideally by both, there are about 20 hard-core conservatives out of the 60 or so Ohio House Republicans, about 20 or so reliable conservatives and about 20 who are either principally liberal or who, for whatever reason, will just do what they're told by people who are in it for themselves.

If you want to know why these three were shunned, check the campaign finance reports. Becker gave a small amount of money to the state party in early 2012, money that was plowed back into his campaign, even though he didn't really need it. He never gave a dime to the Republican caucus.

Maag, running for his final term in a safe seat who has been on Finance and who represents an area known for its generous Republican campaign contributors, hasn't raised or given a dime to the caucus or the state party in two years.

Hood, in his second stint in the House, hasn't ever given a dime to the state party or caucus from his campaign account.

There's good reason for that principled stand. New candidates sand those from swing districts rely heavily on the state party and the caucus for campaign support. That makes them beholden to the caucus and allows them to control their votes.

Even the most conservative members usually give to the caucus because it helps them advance in the system into committee chairs and leadership roles.

Becker, Maag and Hood don't want to subsidize that and I don't blame them one bit.

We would find it very difficult to work with uncooperative people who aren't team players. Our chairman and our executive director are always telling us how important it is to get along with Democrats.
