Colerain Township tax increase, January 25th

Dear fellow tax hikers, we urgently ask you to mobilize immediately in support of the proposed Colerain Township Property Tax increase.  The citizens of Colerain deserve to pay higher taxes, and we can help make this happen tomorrow at their 7:00 AM Friday morning special meeting.

State law requires 24 hour notice for such a special meeting (and what can be more special than raising taxes).  Colerain Township met the requirement by posting notice 24 hours and 3 minutes in advance.  This leaves us tax hikers little time to rally our forces.

The proposed resolution will raise property taxes by 2 mills.  This new revenue stream is needed to free up more money for the general fund, so that Colerain's leaders can continue to spend that money on whatever important programs they run.

We call on all you tax hikers to pack the house tomorrow at 7:00 AM sharp!  A huge turnout will show widespread support for more taxes.  We also urge everyone to contact Colerain Township Trustees Jeff Ritter, Dennis Deters, and Melinda Rinehart before the meeting and deliver them one simple message: we demand higher property taxes!

I'm sick of being able to save money for retirement and stuff like that, so I endorse this tax increase. We need the government to spend our money for us because they do it better.

What Colerain Township really needs is a levy for its parks.

What to do, what to do, what to do? I LOVE paying higher taxes for our police department. It's one of the few things in life that actually makes me happy. But I am still so freaking bitter over losing an election to a 23-year-old political novice that I haven't been able to see straight ever since. Everything the COlerain Township Trustees and Fiscal Officer does just pisses me off to high heaven!!!!

Don't worry, I'll find something to complain about. I always do.

What a bunch of wussies! Is pink bubble gum going to be the "Taste of Colerain" this year???

Be proud of your tax hikes! Discuss this at a regular meeting and cut off public comment if there is any disagreement.

Make sure you turn your Republican Club into a pro-tax campaign machine that will tolerate no dissent or opposing views.

Have some intestinal fortitude and put this on the November ballot when you're also up for election yourself. That way, the voters can vote for tax hikes and tax hikers at the same time!

I hope you're asking for a ton of millage, because, when it's for raising taxes, the sky should be the limit.

You know, the Greeks invented taxes.

But we invented the 7 am meeting. Actually we invented the 5 am meeting. This is weak tea all the way around.

Why does Colerain Township need police anyway? Nobody in that Rumpke-infested ghetto has anything worth stealing. There's no good shopping for anyone who isn't a smelly west sider out there. Maybe you need a shoe levy to get some good shopping or something. But the whole places stinks of Rumpke. I don't know what you're going to do about that. You smelly west siders seem to love it there. I don't know how my buddies Dennis, Mindy, and Jeff tolerate the stench.

I hope they'll hire me to run their campaign and will overlook my track record and the nasty comments I've made about some of the elected officials in Colerain.

Virg the Scourge said...

I've been out of political office for nearly a whole month and it's giving me the shakes just to imagine someone else raising taxes when I lack the ability to do so. When they certify the millage for the May ballot at their next secret meeting, do you think I can come and watch?

I'd like to thank the Colerain Trustees for giving us 24 hours and 3 minutes notice for this important meeting! Nothing like giving the public adequate notice before making such an important decision. Our Trustees have nothing to hide.

Kathy, Tom, Joe, Diana, everyone:

I really wanted the trustees to do this as early as possible so I didn't have to go to yet another meeting. Really I did. This tax is going to be the best thing ever for our community.

I sat on this story for as long as I could, but those nasty, evil Tea Partiers said they would say mean things about me if I didn't report on it. You know how that goes, right?

Please be sure to contact these public officials on their public e-mail addresses and show your appreciation for raising taxes in a special election and calling a 7am meeting to do so. So nice of them to have it at this time so we don't miss work or any of our kids' activities to attend a public meeting and let the people's voice be heard.

Is this really happening? Are they really raising taxes in Colerain Township? An All-Republican board of trustees? Just like the Republicans on the county commission like to raise taxes too. And Republicans in suburban communities are raising taxes left and right.

Pinch me, I am dreaming. Maybe I can get back on the public payroll by pretending to oppose tax increases. Man's got some bills to pay, you know.

Buzz Deters said...

Is there a provision in this levy to create a fund to pay off the debts of family members of Colerain Township elected officials? Maybe we can get my bud Barbiere on that. Go Bombers. We've got Cheez-Its.

My totally non-political self gets really excited when there are good political ballot issues out there. I remember leading a Republican organization and working for a Republican member of Cincinnati City Council and spending all my time attacking other Republicans who opposed that jail tax levy and other tax hikes, and I pretended to be neutral while I had a huge sign supporting it in my yard... or make that my mom's yard, yeah, I kinda forgot about that. (And then it got soundly rejected by the voters.) It was kind of embarassing when I would claim other people were blogging in their Mommy's basement, even though they owned a home and I was living in a home owned by... my mom. Awkward.

Anyhoo, those days are behind me now. I swore off politics. Well, except for that political campaign in Madeira I totally spearheaded last year... and which lost 3-1 on Election Day.

Moving along. Good luck, Colerain. Haven't been over there in a while but I hear it's just as easy to anonymously smear one of their elected officials as it was in 2007.

We're too busy obsessing over a Facebook photo of a state education official nobody ever heard of to weigh in here but hey anytime taxes are raised it makes us feel good. Just make sure those polices don't go after our loyal voters in the African-American community too hard. Make sure they look the other way when one of our elected officials is stuffing about $130,000 in campaign contributions into his own pockets.

Nice guy, that Clayton Luckie. Don't drop the soap in his presence.

Our friends in the news media are keeping quiet about that and I hope you guys do too.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORT THIS TAX HIKE. I SUPPORT ALL OF THE BIG SPENDING OUR POLICE OFFICERS AND FIRE FIGHTERS WANT TO HAVE AND I WILL BE DAMNED IF SOME DWEEBY GOVERNOR OR OVERSTUFFED STATE SENATOR IS GOING TO GET IN THEIR WAY. MAKE NO MISTAKE. COLERAIN TOWNSHIP NEEDS A POLICE LEVY. THEY NEED TO GET THAT PLACE CLEANED UP AND FAST. BROTHER RITTER, BROTHER DETERS AND SISTER... UH... THE OTHER NICE YOUNG LADY WHO WORKS FOR DENNIS DETERS' BROTHER IN THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE... WELL, WHERE WAS I.. I HOPE THIS LEVY PASSES BECAUSE I LOVE TAX HIKES. I JUST WISH MY GOOD FRIEND SEAN DONOVAN WERE AROUND TO SEE IT. WHAT AN AMAZING TAX HIKE. IF MY GOOD FRIEND SIMON LEIS WERE STILL ALIVE, HE'D BE SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE.

Whatever you guys do, remember to keep sounding like a conservative because those fools who keep voting for you will forget about your champion tax hiking record.

Just keep bad-mouthing minorities, criminals, women, people who let their property values drop, Wyoming city council, immigrants, west siders, and sex offenders. Well, in your case, maybe lay off the west sider bashing. Might not go over so well. But you get my point.

Just keep talking about how terrible other people are and everyone will think you're better than they are and they'll vote for you on that basis. And wear a red sweater. Always wear a red sweater.

Good luck Jeff. I'll always regret not doing more to help you defeat you-know-who back in 2011. In the end, I doubt Alex or that Denny guy would have cared all that much if she lost anyway. Oh, well, there's always 2015.

If only Colerain could be as wonderful as we are, they wouldn't need to raise taxes for police.

We get all the money we need because we have nicer housing that pays more in taxes.

Because we don't have any Section 8, we don't have as much crime as you do in Colerain.

Because we don't have a huge stinking pile of garbage, we have higer property values.

You have ghetto kids at Colerain and Northwest, while our kids at Oak Hills don't need the level of policing those animals at Colerain and Northwest have to have.

Because we have quality retail establishments, we don't need the level of policing in our business district that you require at North Ghetto Mall.

Face it, we are just all around better than you.

I can't use my real name because I have a very important position at the highest levels of state government.

Folks, I am so excited about this tax increase for the good folks in our police department. They really need it. As our scoeity continues to disintegrate because of the growing dependency that Obama has enabled, we need to help our police forces keep those people away from us and out of Colerain Township.

You know, it's really sad what's happened to Colerain and it's really sad what's happened to this great county of ours.

Yes, well, we are raising your taxes after we gave our administrator and our police chief huge raises. Sucks to be a taxpayer, doesn't it, bee-yot-chezzz?

See you at the big Republican pancake breakfast tomorrow where Alex T will tell everyone just how gosh-darn fiscally responsible us Republicans are.

Greg "Taxhike" Hartman said...

Under the circumstances I see no alternative but to raise taxes.

See you all at the pancake breakfast. Let's all pretend that we like what Rand Paul is saying so we can keep those teabaggers happy. I have ambitions, after all.

I didn't really do any work this week, so I just sent out the same e-mail I sent last week. Let's go form a Buckeye Battalion folks! And drop me and e-mail if you want to ruin for Cincinnati City Council. Can you believe that a guy who loves John Kerry and lesbian Democrats on New York City Council is going to get up early on a Saturday morning, missing Findlay Market's fun times, to go hear Rand Paul speak?

If I lived anywhere near Colerain Township, I'd want:

A stronger police force

At least a dozen drug-sniffing dogs on patrol at any given time

Armed crossing guards at every major intersection

Our own urban assault vehicles

Gates around most subdivisions

Armed patrols within every neighborhood

Machine-gun patrols on armored vehicles continuously riding up and down Colerain Avenue

Ned from Northgate said...

The opportunity to pay more in taxes after the Colerain trustees decided to give their administrator an earlier and bigger raise than called for in his contract and then to give the police chief a raise once he applied for another job elsewhere, just warms my heart to no end. I also love how our tax dollars are going to subsidize security at Northgate Mall, never mind that Northgate went downhill once the trustees re-zoned the land for Stone Creek to be built and subsidized that project with TIFs and utility assistance. Then they went ahead and forced all the residents in a nearby subdivision to tap into that part of the water and seewer system. Then the township paid for the retaining walls to be re-trenched after all this construction. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

While Republicans snipe and point fingers at each other, a United States Senator is taking free trips to the Dominican Republic and living it up with some hot young ladies.

Since he is a Democrat, the President's FBI and Justice Department aren't going to do a thing. ABC News knew about it for months and did nothing with the story. That's because only simplistic, moralistic right-wing Jesus freaks, whose ideology of hatred and intolerance is going the way of the dinosaur, are upset about it. Everyone else in America isn't going to begrudge the hard-working Senator a little fun, because they'd rather be on the Island too.

What a great turnout for this event! The room was packed! Great speeches! We're so fired up for 2014! We're so fired up for 2016! Rand Paul is awesome! We're standing tall against Obama's gun grab! Just read the Constitution front to back and you'll see how evil Obama is! America is waking up! Conservatism is winning! Now get out there and work hard for victory!

Wait, what, work? Forget that.

We'll see you at the next face-stuffing opportunity, the Lincoln-Reagan dinner, where again we will sit down and eat while someone we don't know tells us how great we are just for being Republicans and conservatives.

I hope Jeff comes through for this police levy the way he was supposedly going to come through for me in 2011. Had it in the bag, he said. No one likes her, he said. Just show them you're more qualified and a better leader, he said. I found you some former friends of hers to speak out against her, he said. I have to keep this on the QT, he said.

Then last year, he told us he was going to set up a partnership for the township to subsidize the Colerain Township Business Association by getting other community groups to pay to rent the community and senior center. That didn't turn out so well, either.

Well, WTH happened there, bucko?

I like higher taxes just as much as the urbanist bon vivant Hochscheid's do, but, really, they need to take the stuff about other people getting sued somewhere else. This is a blog about supporting higher taxes, and this post is about the upcoming Colerain police levy which excites all of my friends and neighbors so very much. We can't wait to pay higher taxes, so let's stay focused on the topic at hand here, OK?

If you think the Obama machine was organized in '08 and '12, wait until you see the pro-police levy army in action. There'll be everything except ice cream for 18 yr old high school voters and busing to the polls of blue hairs. Well, actually those things will happen too.
