Dissecting our major loss

Dear fellow tax hikers, we know that all of you - as well as us - are still grieving over the landslide loss of our Stadium Queen Roxanne Qualls.  Yesterday we even fell ill, as it literally made us sick to see Mayor-elect John Cranley celebrating his win and moving to kill our beloved streetcar.  It is important that even as we grieve, we still try to move on.

It is time to begin understanding our loss.  We ask you, our loyal readers, to send us your thoughts as to why we badly lost this most important race.  Is it because Cincinnati is dominated by Republicans, Tea Partiers, and COASTers?  Is it because voters didn't understand the awesomeness of the streetcar and parking plan?  Is it because voters weren't aware of all the good work Roxanne did to pass the Bedinghaus Stadium Tax?  Is it because the Qualls campaign blew it in the black community?

We believe it is all of the above.  Voters were too stupid to understand all of the brilliant ideas Roxanne has produced over the years.  We also believe the one mistake Qualls made was not taking our advice regarding the black vote.  We told her to return their calls.  We pleaded with her to repudiate the comments of her surrogates that Cranley's black supporters were bought off.  What black person would vote for Qualls if her people were accusing Cranley of not hiring enough white people

Now it is your turn.  Please share your thoughts why Roxanne Qualls was destroyed Tuesday night.

They should have unleashed me to do more for the campaign and they should have used racial slurs when bashing Cranley's black supporters, especially Slitherman. Qualls should have run farther to the left and focused more on the True Democrats.

Sounds like Roxy is another satisfied client of Dr. Julie Matheny, Ph. D. and her expert campaign consultin' service.

Do you think my boss would mind if I took my crusade against Colerain Township to the next level and began to use my taxpayer-provided email to make public records demands to city government on taxpayer time?

You have to look no further than smug racist assholes Craig Hochscheid and Derek Bauman. Thank you for the help gentlemen. We couldn't have done it without yoU!

I'm an actual Qualls supporter, as opposed to the satirical ones who usually post here. I'm obviously disappointed in the results. Cranley won because he ran a much better campaign than we did.

We never communicated to the voters why the streetcar and parking plan were good for them. Cranley effectively used those issues to win votes. Cranley also knew better how to run a 1-on-1 race as opposed to a field race.

If you asked the candidates what they had for breakfast, Cranley would answer that it's time to stop the streetcar. Qualls would talk about the need for a balanced diet, the importance of fiber in the morning, and the need consume a lot of vitamin in your food rather than a supplement. In an era where voters might learn 2-3 things about their candidates, Cranley zeroed in on stopping the streetcar and parking plan while Qualls came off more like a boring professor at a lecture.

Our team wasn't nimble enough to communicate to the diversity of voters. It was mostly downtown/OTR people talking to other downtown/OTR people. We were great at getting their votes, but impotent everywhere else. Meanwhile we got clobbered on the west side, east side, and black community.

Some of our alleged surrogates hurt us. John Schneider is a nightmare to work with, just as he was 10 years ago when pitching the light rail tax that failed miserably. Derek Bauman hurt us by accusing black leaders of being paid to support Cranley. We needed to WIN the black vote and that wasn't how you do it. Jens Sutmoller is good with numbers and specific tasks, but wasn't mentally strong enough to counter the negative personalities that hurt the campaign. And no, your friend Craig Hochscheid wasn't part of our campaign. His constant, visceral attacks were anything but helpful, but he was doing it on his own and not as part of a coordinated campaign effort.

Roxanne is a nice woman who would have made a good mayor. Unfortunately she and the campaign team did not run a good enough campaign to defeat Cranley and the good campaign he ran.

Roxanne Qualls limited their campaigning to those on the far left. Her idiot surrogates even criticized Cranley for winning support from Republicans. Guess what Qualls morons, a Republican vote counts as much as a Democratic vote.

By contrast Cranley worked for Democratic, independent, and Republican votes. Anyone shocked Cranley won?

Running an ad showing a dog pissing on a Cranley sign was comically inept. What the hell kind of campaign staff sits around the table and says "yeah Roxy you should run that!" Morons.

If I knew the Tea Party and COASTies were going to defeat Qualls so badly, I wouldn't have gotten my fat ass off the couch, jumped into my Audi 5000, and waddled into the voting booth to vote for her.

Qualls Team Member -
I would agree with 95% of your post. It's mostly spot-on. That said, the streetcar debate has been raging for nearly six years now with millions spent by the pro-streetcar side in referendum election campaigns, and slick Parsons-Brinkerhoff provided guerilla advertising. That's in addition to the non-stop pro-streetcar cheerleading efforts of the City Manager, Mayor, and entire City government apparatus. If you haven't convinced people by now that it's a good thing then you never will. You're beating a dead horse at this point, and the more you beat it the more you piss people off, because you're essentially telling them over and over again that they're just too dumb to get it.

If you tie this albatross around the neck of your next liberal candidate, they'll lose again, which is fine with me, but you may want to rethink your priorities.

Kathy - apparently your boss does mind since he publicly apologized at the Colerain trustees meeting this evening.

Big Mouth Hochscheid lacks a formal college education despite his claims of such. He is consumed by his pathology, a thirstless quest to con anyone who will pay attention. He's the chubby dumb ass that nobody paid attention to growing up remade into the self celebrated bon vivant and pseudo intellectual... So sad...
